Theodicy

“God wanted another angel!”

We’re off the hook

for infant deaths

due to poverty,

or lack of health,

or faulty cribs,

or skin color,

or a myriad

of other things

we are responsible for.

 

“It is part of God’s plan.”

An accident

where cars collide

or red lights are run

or speed limits overcome?

Or a myriad of other things

humans are responsible for.

 

“It was her time to go.”

Does the Divine set the clock?

Is your number up?

Don’t we have a say

by the way we live –

the choices we make

for heaven’s sake!

 

Don’t justify God’s ways to me

lest we excuse our responsibilities

for health and wealth

and the common good.

 

Put God in the Dock

and, like Job, you’ll discover

your miniscule place

in the creation of

the Divine Lover.
