“On each of my dyings shed you light and your love.”
*David
Flemming, SJ
A glance back into the distance of childhood innocence:
--the playground
--the swing
--races
--dodgeball
--tree climbing
now blurring into oblivion.
A closer mile marker – innocence to experience:
-adolescence-
The rollercoaster mystery and mystique
of sensual attraction with fertile creativity
coursing in one’s veins.
Only to be smothered by career living
and yet the awesome miracle of child-rearing:
rough corners,
loss and laughter,
hurt and hope;
somehow survived
through open hearts,
broken then mended.
And now in autumn as winter approaches
--the years countdown to a handful—
watching contemporaries’ pass
into a fading history as
friends face misfortunes –
and with each fall
the reminder of the finality
of it all.
Yet, at each juncture
the humble petition:
“On each of my dyings
shed your light and your love.”
