*Sand Mandala
Circles and squiggles
and arches and lines.
Zigzags and zagzigs
and oblong designs.
All a mosaic
carved out
in the sand.
Such beauty,
such art,
eternally grand.
No, in a moment,
in a snapshot,
it is gone.
The artist erases,
sweeps over her work.
Embracing that moment
enjoying mother earth.
*After
a mandala has been created, a mandala ceremony is held
where the monks pray and meditate. After the completion of the ceremony, the
monks destroy the mandala because of the underlying
message, “nothing is permanent.” According to Buddhism, everything is always
moving to balance and enlightenment.
