Nature’s Lament 2021
Lament, O Coastlands, once open:
ravaged by the
masses
building
cities on sand.
Lament, O Forests, once fresh:
infringed on
by people
inhabiting
your land.
Lament, O Sky, once bright:
cut open by
coal smokestacks
and jet engines
thought grand.
Lament, O Rivers, once clean
polluted and
torn
rechanneled by
human hands.
Lament, O Mountains, once majestic:
lacerated for
fuel
now ragged sad and bland.
If only we had heeded the prophets back when
nature’s lament would turn into reveling again.
