Celebrating National Poetry Month
Wordsmith
The
pen strikes the anvil
and
words begin to fly
like
sparks in succession
no
telling how or why.
As
syllables seek shape
with
each new hammer blow
the
craftsman views through a mask
the
red hot steel below.
A
muse, she cries: “Strike while it is hot
time
is running short!”
Yet,
the craftsman slows his hammer
as
each meter he now sorts.
The
outcome is unknown
as
the steel bends and turns.
Artists
listen to their art
as
it speaks to them they learn.
Art
shapes the artist
attentive
to its voice.
Craftsmen
partner with their craft.
They
have no other choice.
They
never go it alone:
Poets,
painters, every sage;
the
page, the canvas speaks to them.
They listen and engage.
