Ramah*
(Art by Salvador Dali)
“A voice is heard in Ramah,
lamentation and bitter weeping.
Rachel is weeping for her children;
she refuses to be comforted for her children,
because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15
lamentation and bitter weeping.
Rachel is weeping for her children;
she refuses to be comforted for her children,
because they are no more.” Jeremiah 31:15
Rachel cries and we
hear the echo,
her voice is amplified down the canyon.
from the heights of
Ramah.
At Ramah
right now in each
moment
we cannot be
comforted
amidst God’s
children dying.
The cliché is empty:
“This, too, will
pass.”
As now we grasp
in the onslaught of
grim reality.
Shout!
Cry!
Weep bitterly!
One cannot be
comforted
at the apex of
Ramah.
We can only lament.

God's children dying.
