Matthew 10:40-42 -
NRSV
Rewards
40 “Whoever
welcomes you welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me.
41 Whoever welcomes a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a
prophet’s reward; and whoever welcomes a righteous person in the name of a
righteous person will receive the reward of the righteous; 42 and whoever
gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones in the name of a
disciple—truly I tell you, none of these will lose their reward.”

Pentecost 4 – A
Cool Waters
At
Jacob’s well
the
Savior sought her
offering
her
cool,
living waters.
Streams
from deep chasms
dark
and dank;
creation's
first waters
for
all to drink.
A
simple gesture,
yet,
so profound;
a
cup of cool water
creates
holy ground.
And
now, we too,
can
receive and offer
to
ourselves and others
a
cup of cool water.
Each
time we dip
into
baptismal grace
and
share God’s care
and
create a space
for
thirsty lonely ones,
like
the saddened child,
or
the abandoned elderly;
we
go the extra mile.
So
living streams,
ancient,
ever new,
fulfill
God’s dream
of
life for me and you.
Abundant
life
where
healing waters flow,
and
all are satiated
and
no one is alone.
So
simple, yet profound,
cool
water in a cup,
refreshing
as the sound
of
voices lifted up.
The
Holy Grail
that
will not fail.
The
cup of cool water
for
friend and neighbor.
