What if…

 

Church was more about championing the rights of women

         than belief in a Virgin birth?

 

Church was more about diversity of beliefs in the Mystery of God

         than the ancient dogma of creeds?

 

Church was more about welcoming a stranger to the coffee hour

         than hanging out with the same click week upon week?

 

Church was more about participating in God’s loving reign

         than worshipping Jesus?

 

Church was more about ‘selling the silver’

         than holding on to the trappings of an edifice?

 

The bread and wine of Holy Communion expressed the largess of God

in a feast of victory

         rather than a tiny wafer and a sip of wine?

 

The baptismal font constantly overflowed with water

         rather than a small bowl oft ignored.

 

What if this Christmas Christ is born again in each of us

         rather than a sentimental observance of a past event?
