Advent I

Revised Common Lectionary Series A – 2022

November 27, 2022

Isaiah 2:1-5  Psalm 122

Romans 13:11-14  Matthew 24:36-44

Stir Us

Complacent we stand

in worship to pray.

But does anything change?

Will there be a new day?

When swords forged to plowshares

reap rich harvests for all

and the hungry will be fed

no troops will be called.

Spears turned to pruning hooks

rich wine for each table

celebrating peace at last

each person enabled

to reach out to one’s neighbor

a second coming of Christ

in grace and forgiveness

rebirthing each life.

And out of the darkness

of hate and despair

a light is ignited

that brightens the air.

Yet here as we worship

we seldom expect

the Divine to change us

as we live in regret.

Stir us this Advent.

Come, O Christ, now.

Set fire to complacent faith

with justice us endow.
