Neighborly Chat
Eve of Flag Day –
2020
“I
don’t see color,” he said in the cool June evening:
-
the subject of conversation – racism.
“I
hope they don’t overplay their hand,” he continued.
Perched
on the precipice of white privilege,
not
seeing ‘color’ is the systemic DNA of the USA.
Blacks
are 13% of the USA,
yet,
38% of that population is imprisoned,
yet,
30% are affected by COVID-19.
Innocent
protesters pepper sprayed in DC by the FBI.
And
we still don’t see color?
We
remain unrepentant in a smug cliché.
The
world is a technicolor globe with a myriad
of
shades of skin.
Only
when we see all the colors
will
white folks be free.
