Reformation

Once upon a time a Wizard gave a kaleidoscope
to an aspiring Rabbi.  His heart was open wide.
“Look in here for the Divine
and her ways and you’ll always
be restless under its sway,”
said the Wizard.

And so it was:
the Rabbi gazed
into the kaleidoscope
and his Spirit
began to spin –
a myriad of colors
and shapes
tantalizing his imagination.

Understand the Divine?
No!  Simply witness
Its vastness, diversity, and colors;
use metaphors and similes
and become a storyteller.

And sure enough
the band that followed
seldom understood.
For them the kaleidoscope of the Divine
is too much to behold.
Instead look here
with the naked eye
and tunnel vision
and never question
how you see
the Divine –
quit your head
from spinning.

And so it goes:
The Kaleidoscope Prophet
is strung up on a cross
and the Kaleidoscope
becomes a threat
and the Divine Imagination
lost.

Yet, God,
the great iconoclast,
still visits
her dear Church.
Camped outside
the Wizard
offers
a Kaleidoscope
of rebirth.

  1. Love this one dad.. I often get caught up in trying to understand it all, frustration, then quitting. Letting it be a mystery is much more productive :) amazing metaphors!
